Young people unemployment nationally has passed the politically sensitive one million mark for the first time since records became comparable in 1992.
Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has warned that “Britain’s young people face having their lives blighted by unemployment”.
The UK as a whole, youth (18-24) unemployment has reached a record high of 1.02 million.
The West Midlands has unemployment figures of 234,000 accounting for 8.9 per cent of the regions population.
The pressure on young people gaining employment with or without an educational background is more competitive.
What we want to know is those of you who are unemployed/employed how have you coped with the issues and do you have any top tips for others in your situation.

Over the last few weeks the devastation across the country caused from a select few of which only a small percentage of those were young people has led to our image being further tarnished by the press. A week following the riots I went to a “Question time event” which was facilitated and created by the Sandwell young advisors. The panel at the event consisted of members of the police authority, Youth parliament along with council workers. The discussion and ideas behind the riots were largely contrasting however the solid statement which came from the 60 young people at the event was that there was no excuse for the crimes they had committed. The problems which face the West Midlands at the moment such as cuts in youth provision along with removal of educational maintenance allowance only echoed the feeling which many Young people in the West Midlands have. Issues surrounding police brutality and racism was also raised by young people and these problems the police aimed to address. While the discussion did become political the conversation was steered back on topic and many young people praised the way in which the police dealt with the matter. Overall an extremely positive evening and gave many Young people the chance to give their opinions and get some answers to the questions they had.
